About the World Cyber Games

"The World Cyber Games, or WCG, is the premier international tournament in all of competitive video gaming, otherwise known as eSports. Widely regarded as the “Olympics” of eSports, gamers enter and compete in year-round online and live national qualifying tournaments. These lead to national championships which culminate at the WCG Grand Final global championship where the best in the world compete as individuals and as a national team to earn the World Champion title. The WCG broke registration records in 2008 as 1.5 million gamers from 80 countries participated in the global tournament. The WCG 2009 Grand Final took place in Chengdu, China in October. This year the WCG 2010 Grand Final will take place in the United States at the Los Angles Convention Center in late September."

HISTORY

Founded in 2000 to promote global harmony through eSports, the WCG has grown steadily ever since. Behind the slogan "Beyond the Game" and with contestants from more than 78 countries expected to participate in this year's event, the WCG has become a true global phenomenon with arguably the largest worldwide prize purse at stake. The World Cyber Games prides itself on leading the "Digital Entertainment Culture." WCG introduced the host city concept in 2002 and some of the world's great cities have responded, playing host to the eSports premiere event, including: Seoul (2003), San Francisco, USA (2004), Singapore (2005), Monza, Italy (2006), Seattle, USA (2007),Cologne, Germany (2008), and Chengdu, China (2009). This year, the WCG returns to the United Sates as Los Angles, California plays host to the WCG Grand Final.

Founded in 2000 and created with launching the professional careers of many of the planet's top video game players, the World Cyber Games uses a yearlong tournament format, including online, regional and national competition in each country. The WCG Grand Final, known as the Olympics of the video gaming, provides a variety of exhibitions and cultural events joined by thousands of spectators. World Cyber Games was certified as the "World's largest video game festival" by the Guinness Book of Records with 1,500,000 gamers from 74 countries participating the worldwide events in 2007. In 2008 World Cyber Games has exceeded this record with 1,600,000 participants from 78 countries competing for the WCG Grand Final.
